US House votes to repeal FCC internet privacy protections

Wednesday, March 29th, 2017

So, this happened

Do we want ISP’s and 3rd Parties to ‘collect’ and ‘own’ then ‘sell’ our internet traffic and usage habits for marketing and other purposes?

Shouldn’t that Data belong to us and ISP’s are only custodians or managers of it?

Unfortunately, this further strips everyone of their internet privacy protections and online security.

This may just be a stepping stone to government and corporations removing Net Neutrality and creating an unfair online marketplace with tiered access which would further erode our internet experience.

Google Fiber – Update

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

As we reported at the end of last year, Google Fiber (under Alphabets Google Access division) was halting it’s Fiber build-outs in new markets.

Wired and Engadget now have a short update on the current Google Fiber position, reasoning behind their move, and what its new ‘over the air’ (wireless) replacement is in most regions/markets moving forward.

Even if we are slightly sad that Google Fiber will not be installing Fiber cabling everywhere, we absolutely credit them with helping to push other carriers/providers to lay more high-speed cable and thank Google for competing in this arena and leading an industry wide price reduction on all types of high speed internet.
